How to make a 2 ingredients Eco Friendly Laundry detergent + how to use it // by Conscious Rebhell

Before starting to make my own eco friendly laundry detergent, I used to use the main ones, basically the ones that pollutes our precious oceans (all major brands. How expensive are they?!).

After doing a bit of research, and after I discovered the kind of damage they are doing to our Planet, I decided to switch to more eco - friendly brands.

Problem was that...even eco-friendly brands COME IN PLASTIC BOTTLES! (absolutely non-sense, if you ask me) and, as we all know, plastic is a downcycling product AKA:

you can put a label on a plastic bottle saying that it is recyclable, but plastic, every times it's recycled looses a bit of "quality" until it reaches a point of non - return and...it ends up in land fills (what?!?!? Oh yes baby. Check Wikipedia in here to understand properly what downcycling is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downcycling).

So, after talking with my precious friend, Lu, she suggested me to start to make my own.

Too complicated?

NOPE!

2 ingredients, 5 minutes, and the job is done.

Let's see how this magic works!

INGREDIENTS (for about 2.4 lt of product):

- 2.2 lt of water;

- 60 gr of bicarbonate of soda;

- 180 gr of Marseille soap flakes (or a simple Marseille soap that you will need to grate, like I usually do)

HOW TO:

- if you, like me, bought simple Marseille soap bars, just grate them with a grater so that you will obtain Marseille soap flakes;

- bring the water to boil in a big, tall pan;

- once boiling, drop the soap flakes and the bicarbonate inside and immediately lower the flame to a minimum;

- keep on stirring until the soap flakes are melted (as this mix tends to over boil. It will take about 5 minutes);

- once melted, transfer the mix in a container (I use a 2.5 lt bucket but any container with a wide opening will do. Why wide opening? Because, depending on where you live, if it is hot or cold, the mix might end up being more on the "gel/solid" end. If you have a container with a wide opening on top, you will be able to scoop it out);

- leave it to cool down and, when cold, cover it with a lid and leave it to rest for 12 hours;

- after the 12 hours, use an immersion blender and blend it well until smooth and creamy;

- that's it! Use it straight in the washing machine basket (or in the drawer if liquid enough like mine, check out the video to see the result: https://youtu.be/1dwhgIloBKk ), 150 ml at 30/40 degrees.

VERSIONE IN ITALIANO

Prima di cominciare ad auto-produrre il detersivo per lavatrice, come tutti, usavo i marchi piu' famosi disponibili al supermercato, praticamente quei superinquinanti cari come il fuoco senza pormi assolutamente nessun problema sulle possibili (anzi certe) conseguenze che avessero sull'ecosistema.

Mi basto' fare un minimo di ricerca per scoprire il tipo di danno che i suddetti causano al nostro prezioso Pianeta e, cosi', decisi di passare ai marchi piu' Eco Friendly (ancora piu' cari).

Il problema e' che, per quanto questi marchi siano eco-friendly, vengono tutti venduti in BOTTIGLIE DI PLASTICA! (senza senso, giusto?) e, come tutti sappiamo, la plastica e' un prodotto "downcycling" OVVERO: i nostri prodotti eco-friendly possono avere anche una bella etichetta che ci dice che la bottiglia e' reciclabile, ma, la plastica, ogni volta che viene reciclata perde di qualita' fino a raggiungere il punto di non ritorno e finire in discarica come qualsiasi altro materiale NON recclabile (eh?!?!Ebbene si' amici miei. Non ho trovato una pagina di WIkipedia che lo spiega in Italiano, ma se cercate su Google sicuramente troverete qualche informazione in piu' in merito).

Quindi, dopo aver fatto due chiacchiere sull'argomento con una mia preziosa amica, Lu, mi ha suggerito di iniziare a farmelo per conto mio.

Troppo complicato?

ASSOLUTAMENTE NO!

2 ingredienti, 5 minuti ed e' fatta.

Vediamo come fare!

INGREDIENTI (per circa 2.4lt di prodotto):

- 2.2 lt d'acqua;

- 60 gr di bicarbonato;

- 180 gr di sapone di Marsiglia in fiocchi (oppure una semplice saponetta di sapone di Marsiglia che potrete grattuggiare fino ad ottenerne dei fiocchi, come faccio io)

PROCEDIMENTO:

- in una pentola capiente, portare l'acqua a bollore;

- quando bolle, aggiungervi il sapone di Marsiglia ed il bicarbonato ed abbassare la fiamma al minimo immediatamente;

- continuate a mescolare fino a che i fiocchi non si saranno sciolti, circa per 5 minuti (dato che il mix tende a "salire rapidamente" durante l'ebollizione);

- una volta sciolto, trasferire il contenuto della pentola in un contenitore capiente (ho usato un secchielo da 2.5lt ma qualsiasi contenitore con un'apertura ampia andra' bene. Perche' con apertura ampia? Perche' il detersivo potra' risultare piu' o meno gelatinoso a seconda della zona in cui vivete, se piu' o meno fredda e, se il contenitore avra' un'apertura ampia, si potra' prelevare piu' facilmente con un cucchiaio);

- lasciar raffreddare e, una volta freddo, coprite con un coperchio e lasciate riposare per 12 ore;

- dopo le 12 ore, "frullatelo", usando un frullatore ad immersione per renderlo cremoso ed omogeneo;

- fatto! Usatelo direttamente nel cestello della vostra lavatrice (o nel cassetto se risultera' liquido come il mio. Date un'occhiata al video per vedere il risultato: https://youtu.be/1dwhgIloBKk ), 150 ml a 30/40 gradi.
